I don’t know if I’ve ever had such an urge to raise my Guinness, throw my whiskey into a wall or shove the nearest person next to me at a show before. The Dole rocked 10 High last night with their Southern boy revival of irish punk rock. They covered “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker” and “I Wanna Be Sedated” which had the crowd roaring. A couple remakes of Jump songs, many original songs rotating vocals and instrumentation throughout. Then they launch into “Eye Of The Tiger” and I’ve got to say it sounded like shit but nobody cared because they had Amanda Kapasouz rocking the violin, Matt Bivins on irish tin whistles, keys and anything else he could get his hands on, the rest of the band dancing around like fools and the crowd mimicked the energy without hestitation.
I caught the last half of opener Tova Johnson and The Way Home. Young, quirky and sweet describes their laid-back Sunday afternoon sound - full from their seven-piece collaboration. Tova had everyone grab a fabric heart taped to their nearest pole, amp, or whatnot and place it on the shoulder of the person nearest them. Her stage presence is young but alive and definitely shows signs of potentially being a young Jenny Lewis (Rilo Kiley) in the works.
Tonight’s hot show?
Augustana (Epic), Brooklyn’s The Damnwells and local rockers The Julia Dream at The Earl.

I saw Tova play an acoustic set at Smith’s one night. I was very impressed. Love her voice and highly sassy lyrics.
