So I’m not usually a total gearhead but yesterday Criminal got in the coolest thing in the world so I had to sacrifice my cellphone probably getting cut off to purchase this…

holyshitimadork.

What’s so special about it you ask? Why did I purchase a second turntable that looks almost identical to the one I already own?

It has a USB drive!

In short, you’re able to digitalize your vinyl, play your vinyl through your computer or speakers attached to your computer and a few other nifty things.

So far I haven’t been able to install the software necessary on my iBook because though it says it’s PC and Mac compatible, they only include an executable installation file on the software disc. Tried to change it to an .app which required me to install OS9 to be able to open in Classic mode which seemed to do absolutely nothing. I gave up and am going to try to call the Numark support this afternoon to see if they can help me out. They also have Unix software available for download via their website so perhaps they’ll offer some extra support for Macs on there as well. Will keep you posted!

This has to work or I’ll be heartbroken ohmygod!

    I sure as hell could now! The only times I’ve dj’ed at all is when whoever’s dj’ing sucked and I’ve basically asked them if I could play a few songs then occassionally take over. ;) These times amount to maybe 3? Haha.

    On a different note – We should have a party! Summer-themed or something. Your place?

    The USB port should just plug in to your mac and appear as a plug-n-play audio source- the software included is just the freeware Audacity audio editor (http://audacity.sourceforge.net). Audacity is not required- any audio recording software should
    work. HTH.

    So basically if I plug the USB into my computer it should automatically use my speakers on my computer if there’s a record playing?

    I’m not completely following…

    you’d have to come around and see my place first – not the biggest place for a fiesta – but hey, it might work. what are you thinking about doing for july 4?
