Darn Neat

Sort It Out

For those of you just tuning in – this is me shamelessly promoting myself. Well, about 70 other women in Atlanta who play a little sport called roller derby.

“Roller derby?” you ask. Yes. Like Raquel Welch. Only on a flat-track, a little more punk rock punch and a legitimate international sport. No – this isn’t Rollerball.
“WHOA! Do you like elbow girls in the face?!” Um. Not quite.

Here is a great rundown of how roller derby works, featuring your very own Atlanta Rollergirls. There’s even a great little animation at the end that shows you how scoring works.
Now that you understand this new flat-track roller derby that’s all the rage on the streets – come check it out firsthand at the Atlanta Rollergirls Season 2 Championship Bout on Sunday, September 10! The final bout of the 2006 home season sees last year’s contending teams battle it out once again for the trophy!

Sake Tuyas vs Apocalypstix

Roller Derby is experiencing a nation-wide revival since its grassroots rebirth in Austin, TX in 2001. Originally created in 1935, roller derby has experienced many high and low points throughout the decades, but its most recent incarnation is thriving as groups of tough and beautiful all-girl teams bring back the greatest sport on eight wheels, with a little added punch.

Combining a rock and roll mentality, cheeky penalties, lots of crowd involvement, sassy costuming, and above all, hard-hitting action at break-neck speeds, the new all-girl derby leagues are giving Americans reasons to fall in love with roller derby all over again.

Doors 6PM, Game starts promptly at 7PM. No outside food or beverage. Kids 8 and under free. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local charities.
