With the exception of early Friday plans to hit up the The Lowe Gallery for the new Thrush Holmes exhibition, I had no plans whatsoever for the weekend. Sometimes I get uncomfortable at galleries full of people who can afford the $10,000 – $50,000 priced pieces, lucky for me the Lowe Gallery was giving out drinks like it was my birthday. YEA! In no time I was chatting it up with strangers and friends, I even got a chance to chat it up with Thrush Holmes – we talked beer (of course). Later that night I was invited to local Atlanta artist Dosa Kim’s art show for the following evening at Foundation One Studios
So I finished up my Canadian Beer – jumped in a car full of friends, and hit up a bar and later a roof top to end the night.
Saturday night rolled around after a day of slack, pizza, and plenty o’ beer to get over a bad case of hangover. By 7 or 8PM I felt FINE. The drive to Foundation One, like most places I drive to, was an adventure. Eventually (30 minutes?) found the place and realized I’d been there before, and that it was only 5-10 minutes from my apartment.
I met some pretty cool folks at the art show, thought about buying some artwork (realized the 5 bucks to me name wouldnt cut it) and just admired the busy paintings while the room began to get packed full of art lovers. I bumped into my friends TindelMichi who had just gotten back from setting up a piece at Agnes Scott. I hadn’t seen the art duo as a duo in a couple of weeks so it was good catching up. I can’t remember if it was the heat or hunger, but I decided it was time to jet – and as I was saying my good-byes, I got invited to come by the TindelMichi Studios the next day. Now this made me happy, I had been invited in the past and never really made it around to going – I’m IN!
TindelMichi are getting ready for two very big shows of their own – The first “Mint Julep” this Friday at the new Soda Salon in Grant Park, the other “Redneck Graffiti” in NYC in 3 weeks.
I stopped by the TindelMichi studio for a little while, feel in love with everything, and decided that me staying there any longer would mean having to pawn my collection of cold-war era bic lighters so I could buy everything I wanted. Also it stopped raining and I was getting hungry.
So yea, that was my weekend. More or Less. I woke up Monday with a grin on my face, a cool drawing of a Death’s Head Moth (thanks Brandon), and still semi-on-time for work – and now I feel like buying paintbrushes.
