i hafta say, CJs is the most un-buckhead bar in buckhead – so its not that bad? right? will it still be called star bar?

I gotta disagree with you here Luis. I’ve been to multiple shows at CJ’s and avoid it now no matter who is playing because of (1) their clientele and (2) I’m not paying to park.
It’s not even an issue of PBR purchasers in comparison to Long Island purchasers (don’t try to throw that one on me ) – it’s the whole atmosphere. Ack.
Sorry. And sorry to Brad because I know he does a great job booking that place. It’s just not my kind of thing.
This illustrates my point – “Take Your SHIT Back To BUCKHEAD” will be my mantra for 07′ – I’m going to start reprinting those stickers asap – btw the site looks GREAT!!!

I forgot something – does this mean the drink of choice is going to change from PBR to Red Bull & Roofies – I fucking hate Red Bull
OK

Y’gotta point there Tessa. Dont get me wrong – I stay clear of Buckhead as much as you…buuuut I am good friends with a CJs bartender and the two times I’ve been I got hooked up.
Can’t wait to see Pearlene at Star Bar in June.

I TOTALLY am not Buckhead bashing here. CJ’s Landing has got a great staff and loyal patrons. Very well run. It’s just not my personal taste in music or bar.
Does anyone else find amusement in that Buckhead is on the opposite side of town from Little Five Points? They are two completely different social dynamics.

the star bar hasn’t been “THE STAR BAR” for many years. i doubt new ownership will make a difference one way or another.
Captain Buckhead
First off you are all elitist scum bags. Bashing a bar just because of its location makes you exactly the same as the scene you are trying to pass judgment on. For the record every bar regardless of its location has the exact same social dynamics, a bunch of people drinking and socializing. The only thing that may change from bar to bar is the demographic and attire of these people. This has nothing to do with social dynamics. I could easily wear dark rimmed glasses at CJ’s and talk about how much Buckhead sucks and it would be exactly the same as if I did it at the Star Bar. Stop this pussy footing, and admit all of you were bashing Buckhead because you only feel comfortable when people look like you and hate the same things as you. Funny enough, this is exactly what you accuse the people in Buckhead of doing. One final thought to ponder, why do all your local hipster icons: Gringo Star, Sovus Radio, Ocha La Rocha, Morning State, etc continue to play CJ’s regularly? I am pretty sure it has less to do with location since their fans are not from and do not go to buckhead, and more to do with the people at CJ’s. So you might want to take a page from their books and rethink trying to judge the whole ‘scene’ of CJ’s just because you have enjoyed a few to zero drinks there. The Star Bar will be better than ever, and I guarantee that all of you will go more after the new ownership takes over. Put that in your Chuck Taylors and smoke it. Do not fret they will still serve PBR so you will not need to worry about finding another no name, “I’m too cool for school” beer to drink so that your little five points cred does not diminish.

Hey Neal,
Is this response directed to Luis or I or our commenters?
http://www.driveafastercar.com Luis
Cap’n Buckhead – I love you. Truth is, I havent been to Star Bar since last summer – I do enjoy nameless “Im to cool for school cheap beer” – for one reason though, its CHEAP. If Paulaner was 2 bucks, I’d stick an IV in my arm and never be sober.
The ‘scene’ has changed, everywhere – CJs Landing is actually closing – as is and has most of the old Buckehead bars. And that’s what really makes me mad about the Buckhead crowd – their local watering holes are being shut down and they just sit back and let the city do as they please.
btw, where the heck have you been?

Without knowing any of the specifics, I wouldn’t really worry. CJ’s has stayed open over the last few years by being the only place in Buckhead that regularly features live music. They also always have a low priced keg availalble that they sell $5 pitchers of under the name “Cheap Shit”, which changes from Keystone to Natty Light etc.
Before the Buckhead Saloon closed, CJ’s was a place to catch your friend’s band play and was rarely ever crowded or full of the stereotype most people on here despise. However, when the Saloon closed, people wanting to hear live music only had CJ’s and the Peachtree Tavern to turn to. Thus it became an overcrowded bar that lost it’s charm.
As for the comment: “And that’s what really makes me mad about the Buckhead crowd – their local watering holes are being shut down and they just sit back and let the city do as they please.”
I don’t really know what you expect. Loudermilk, the guy who owns Aaron’s Rent-A-Center, has been throwing around huge amounts of money to everyone who owns a building in the area for the last five years and using his contacts to control the distribution of liquor licenses.

nixforsix – Thanks for the info! Really interesting.
It is entirely true that Buckhead is lacking a lot of the live music that you find on the east side of town these days. I’ve been going to CJ’s Landing since I was old enough to get in there (yes I’m a youngin’ and yes born and RAISED in Buckhead) and I totally agree “CJ’s was a place to catch your friend’s band play and was rarely ever crowded or full of the stereotype most people on here despise”.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what is to become of both Buckhead and Little Five Points. Both have very different and evolving dynamics and have progressed dramatically over the past 10 years. With the rate of development in Atlanta, I’m curious to see how Buckhead will move in the entertainment direction (retail, bars/restaurants, parks, etc) and how Little Five Points will sustain their alternative vibe amist the booming retail and luxury condominums popping up down the road.
Will it be create a sense of unity throughout the metro area and unify Atlanta’s “local flavor”? Will it further divide our neighborhoods from each other? Will it push the hipsters to the suburbs?? Just kidding on that last one.
With Atlanta expecting to grow by almost 9 million people in the next 10 years, I think we’ll see a lot more activity from local investors and business owners and can’t wait to see what pans out.

Tessa,
The response was directed at everyone. I do not just mean everyone on this blog, but everyone in the whole world. I hate all people.
Side Note: Since I only interact with Luis via electronic medium, can someone please let me know if he is still “portly”. I do not want to be surprised if things have changed dramatically if I ever decide to hang out with him again.
