Hooked On The Feeling

April 28th, 2007

For the past few months now, I’ve been enjoying the debut CD by The Feeling called Twelve Stops And Home.

They’re from the UK and their CD has a very “Yacht Rock“/AM Gold kind of sound.  Or a little like Travis meets Jellyfish with a little Harry Nilsson thrown in for good measure.

The Times has this to say about them:
“Soft Rock is the new Punk and The Feeling are its Sex Pistols.”
That got your attention, didn’t it?

Well, here are a couple of tracks to give you a taste of their pure pop confections:

Well as much as I’ve enjoyed the CD, I was really looking forward to seeing them live.  They were the opening band on the VH1 “You Oughta Know Tour” featuring Rocco DeLuca and Mat Kearny that was at The Roxy last week.  And The Feeling were fantastic.  A lot more energetic and rocking than I would’ve expected from listening to the CD.  They came across a lot more Power Pop in the flesh, and I’m fine with that!  At times they kind of reminded me of say Cheap Trick or The Cars.  They only played about 35 minutes, but it was a great set.

Then they went to the lobby to sign CDs and meet with fans.  Really nice guys.  After they finished, they had to race onto their tour bus and head out West for Coachella.  I didn’t stick around much longer myself, because neither of the other bands were going to give me as much satisfaction.  I really hope these guys come back to town again soon, but since they’re a British band, there’s no telling.
Fingers crossed though.
