Welcome to the big round up Pardner. I’m Rick the two fisted six gunned ambassador from Geeklandia. That little filly Tessa asked me to wrangle up the all the biweekly news from pop culture’s moldy basement, and I told her I’d see what I could do. If your wonderin’ about my qualifications let me assure you, I am THAT kind of geek. I’ve drank copious amounts of both Guinness and Mt. Dew, rolled 20 sided dice and even gotten a chubby while waxing philosophic over the matter of Princess Leia’s slave bikini. I’ve dwelled in moldy mommas’ basements, and done a few years of service in various comic book shops around thee ATL. I’ve woken up with a head full of drugs next to questionable women after sci-fi convention orgies, and lived to tell the tale. I shoot blue lasers out my ass John Woo style at goth chicks and renfest fanboys. I’ve done it all, and will do it again to bring you the news and the noise from down below. Tech geeks and gamers, Trek nerds and lamer, most of these are the people that I call my friends. They keep me from taking myself too seriously.
So there you have it, a short rundown of who I am, and why I’m here at Drive A Faster Car. This is about the DMZ the un-policed borderlands between cool and not. This the concert you wear your thrift-store scored Troma t-shirt to. In the upcoming issues I’ll be relaying news and tidbits on the latest in comic books, genre films, designer toys, and exciting projects from Atlanta (and South Eastern) based artists and creators. Speaking of which, watch this space for an interview with local indie comic darling Rich Tomasso. I’ll be talking to him about the death of the single issue comic, his work with James Sturm on their new Satchel Paige graphic novel, pizza, and his time away from Atlanta. Also, I’ll try to sneak in a review of a recent comic themed art show by at Mint Gallery by budding talent Saint (Alan Hemphill). By the heads up from Dosa Kim, Skull Fuck 2 will be going down at Eastside Lounge.

Oh! And don’t forget the comics! I’ll be giving you heads ups and reviews of a little of anything and everything with only one stipulation. “If I ain’t read it, I don’t review it.” Geeklandia will also be a place to get crash courses in what’s going on in your favorite superhero books. Topics will range from the D.C. Comics’ Green Lantern based Sinestro Wars to Marvel Comics’ X-men: Messiah Complex’s, and whatever the hell else I’ve actually ran my eyes over. Any feedback or shout outs that you want to give can be sent to rick(@)driveafastercar.com and there will soon be a P.O. Box that you can send me material related to projects that need some promotions.
That’s all you’re gettin’ for free this time cowpokes. Until next time, “Happy trails from Geeklandia”.
