My most anticipated release this week is “Saturnalia” from The Gutter Twins out today on Sub Pop! It indeed sounds like a bed of hot thistle. This is Greg Dulli (Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers) and Mark Lanegan’s (Screaming Trees) first collaborative release but not their first time working together — refer to “Blackberry Belle” Twilight Singers (2003), “Bubblegum” Mark Lanegan (2004) and “A Stitch In Time” Twilight Singers (2006). The two originally met a party in 1989 though it took them almost fifteen years to begin making music together. Their first recordings as The Gutter Twins finally materialized in 2003.

They are hitting the road in support of the release and swinging through Atlanta. Their show in Atlanta also marks the last concert at The Roxy until their renovation is complete. After seeing the pair perform together last year at The Loft with the Twilight Singers, I cannot wait to hear this mix again. Below are their North American dates.
