Summertime (Multiplex) Blues

Recently read through my copy of Entertainment Weekly‘s Summer Movie Preview.  So in the spirit of healthy debate, I figured I would post my thoughts on some of the big event movies and see what your feelings are.  Let the opinions fly!

Iron Man – May 2nd

Got to admit that I’m actually excited about this one.  So far all the trailers I’ve seen make it look pretty good.  Not a huge Robert Downey Jr fan myself, but I like what he’s doing with Tony Stark.

Speed Racer – May 9th.

Going to suck.  Sure it’ll look great.  But I don’t think the Wachowskis can bring the plot.  And eye candy alone isn’t going to be enough for me.  But since I grew up loving Speed, I know I’m going to see it regardless.

Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian – May 16th

Could be good, but I don’t have any plans to see it.  Saw the first movie in the series, but since I didn’t care much for the books, I don’t really care that much for the film adaptations.

Indiana Jones & Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – May 22nd

I have strong hesitations about this one.  Been way too long since the last movie.  And my biggest fear?  Two words…George Lucas.  He pretty much killed one beloved trilogy, I’m worried he’s going to do the same to this one.  And I still can’t buy Shia LaBeouf as some biker tough guy.

Sex And The City – May 30th

I’m a straight guy.  I don’t care.

The Incredible Hulk – June 13th

I don’t know.  First one wasn’t great and not having high hopes for this one either.  I like that Edward Norton is heavily involved, but that might not be enough.

The Happening – June 13th

Tired of all things M. Night Shyamalan.  Probably won’t see it.

Get Smart – June 20th

I like Steve Carell, I like Anne Hathaway.  I haven’t seen anything about this yet, but I’m looking forward to it for now.

The Love Guru – June 20th

Mike Myers with a wacky foreign accent?  When will the hilarity begin?  No seriously, when?

Wall-E – June 27th

Pixar hasn’t had a flop yet.   So I’m sure if they can’t make an interesting story about a garbage compacting robot, no one can.

Wanted – June 27th

Don’t know anything about the graphic novel this is based on, but Angela Jolie starring as some bad ass assassin is enough to get me into a theatre.

Hancock – July 2nd

Will Smith as a down and out superhero.  Zzzzzzzzzzz

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army – July 11th

Yes, yes and yes.  They upped the Guillermo del Toro and that’s enough for me.

The Dark Night – July 18th

Loved Batman Begins, so very much looking forward to this.  The whole Heathe Ledger passing is going to bring out the morbidly curious, but I think this movie can shoulder past all that.

X-Files: I Want To Believe – July 25th

Wasn’t into the show all that much back when it was on and that was a long time ago.  Do people still care about X-Files?

Step Brothers – July 25th

Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly are comic gold.  But this could be a 5 minute joke that lasts for 90 minutes.

And I don’t feel like going into the August releases, so that’s it.
What do you think?

it’s funny, i hardly ever watched sex and the city when it was on (no hbo and can’t be arsed to catch it with the edits and commercials on tbs) but i am still getting pretty excited about this music. i blame all the madness on the blogs that tracked every photo, news bit, rumor, casting whatever.

Ironically, I expected Rick to be the first one to chime in on this post…
