This is super exciting for me (and probably other old-school Atlanta residents)… someone has finally moved into the old Echo Lounge (RIP).

Straight from the East Atlanta Icehouse:
The opening of the East Atlanta Icehouse is the culmination of efforts by the father and son team Ed and Mike Murphy, Chip English (General Manager) and Chet Knight (Booking Manager). After the Echo Lounge (the site’s previous tenant) closed down, the property lay dormant for nearly three years. Mike and Chip had long been interested in reviving the space, but since a day care center had opened adjacent, it was impossible to re-open with a valid license for both entertainment and drinking. When the day care center closed, Mike immediately went into motion to acquire the space. Renovations commenced and after many thousands of dollars and a great deal of hard work, their dream will soon become reality.

The name stems from the fact that the space in the 1920’s was indeed an ice storage house. With 12 inch thick brick walls, the Icehouse is the perfect spot for a live venue. A new, state-of-the-art sound system has been installed along with a new lighting system and hardwood floors. In the old lounge area the new renovations have not only introduced a fully functioning kitchen but a patio addition as well. The restaurant and patio portion, an Irish themed pub, will be open every day from 11:00am to 3:00am.

They allegedly opened the space last Tuesday, August 12 but I tried to drop by last night for dinner and it was pretty dark and empty. Looks like it will be kicking up soon however from the stream of events I see being promoted for the venue (which is some pretty aggressive scheduling).
