Local visual artist, Sam Parker, will be opening his latest solo show, Neoteny, at Beep Beep Gallery on Saturday, July 11. The show will run through Sunday, August 2 and will feature Sam’s work influenced by his history as a tattoo, graffiti and mixed media artist. Parker exhibited new works earlier this month as part of a collaboration at The Art Department Gallery.
Earlier work from Parker’s 2006 portfolio showcases an idea of his former graphic, pop-culture influenced style he once embodied. In a 2007 interview with Pine Magazine, Parker explained a new direction consisting of , “mostly mixed media, collage, acrylic, and found objects.”
With Neoteny (the retention of juvenile characteristics in adult specimens of a species), Parker shifts again to pull from his childhood of drawing, and continued love of the art form to create works influenced by a lifetime in the medium.
