Tonight, Atlanta gallery Whitespace is screening a work by the incredible Matthew Barney, 2005’s De Lama Lamina. This is a rare opportunity to see this little known cinematic work — you will not be able to find this in theatre, on DVD or (my beloved) Netflix.
You may recognize Barney as the creator of the cult flick, The Cremaster Cycle, which was last shown in Atlanta maybe six years back, or as the spouse of the equally as avant, Bjork.
Each screening is limited to a maximum of 50 people. Email Whitespace to make a reservation, including number of guests. It is also suggested to arrive 15 minutes early to secure your seat. Confirmed reservations will receive priority seating. In case of overflow, additional shows will be added. Screenings start promptly on the hour.
De Lama Lamina
Set in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil during Carnaval 2004, this film/performance collaboration with avant-garde musician Arto Lindsay is further evidence of Barney’s continuing fascination with “biomechanical erotica.” Barney says, “De Lama Lamina” is a meditation on the creative process . . . Candomble . . . became a catalyst for finding a way to express a faith in the balances in nature . . . and through this faith being able to look at the world today without feeling hopeless.” 45 minutes
