Coolio’s Rules – You Have To Be Kidding Me

I guess everyone has pretty much had a reality show by now, eh? This is still ridiculous to me, though I find it hugely entertaining that Coolio’s reality show is on Oxygen of all channels. I won’t even pretend (*ahem*… front), when I tried to buy the Dangerous Minds soundtrack, featuring Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” as the theme song, back in 1995 (when they still checked IDs for records with Parental Advisories), I was too young and could only buy the single to “Gangsta’s Paradise.” (And damn if I don’t still know every word to that song!) Not quite sure how this aligns with Oxygen’s more female-targeted audience…

Hand Job is probably the coolest thing that’s happened to the 5 Spot in the past (forever) couple of months. From what I gather its a once a month live art party put on by a handful of Cartoon Networks illustrators, a DJ that spins your typical Dance /1980′s pop / I hate electronica/ its good for the background kind of music, and an old school Nintendo in the back with all your favorite childhood games that made you obese and slightly awkward around women. Yay for good times!

The art is really cool, and its up for sale as soon as its dry. Check it out, holmes.

Atlanta Rollergirls Roller Derby League (a founding league of the WFTDA organization), will be featured on CNN Headline News TODAY (Saturday, Nov. 10th, 2007), every half hour during the Headline News Sports segment.

This two-minute feature story will feature background information on the resurgence of a historical full-contact extreme sports for women with an introduction to Flat-Track Roller Derby, as well as a profile of skater Queen Loseyateefa, ARG’s outgoing League President, recently voted “Rollergirl of the Year” by her peers.

Live Earth is a 24-hour, 7-continent concert series taking place on 7/7/07 that will bring together more than 100 music artists and 2 billion people to trigger a global movement to solve the climate crisis.

Live Earth will stage official concerts at Giants Stadium in New York; Wembley Stadium in London; Aussie Stadium in Sydney; Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro; the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg; Makuhari Messe in Tokyo; the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai; and HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg.

Live Earth concerts will be broadcast to a live worldwide audience by MSN at www.LiveEarth.MSN.com.

We Need Girlfriends – The Interview, Part One

Like all things good in life, I discovered the show “We Need Girlfriends” on the internet. That’s right, I said it. Before the internet life was dull and meaningless. I don’t even want to go into what life was like before cable. Thank God those dark days are in the past.

“We Need Girlfriends” is an online web-series, in my opinion, better than anything on TV these days. Once a month a new episode is posted (on the website, myspace and via i-tunes podcast) following the lives of Tom, Henry and Rod, as they struggle to understand the complexities of dating after living the college life. It’s a ‘sitcom about dating, without the dating.’

I caught up with Angel Acevedo (Ragtag Films), WNG’s Director of Photography/Editor/Producer and asked him a few questions about the show, the characters and the music selected for the show (which by the way they love hearing new local/ independent music).

I will post the interview on Monday because some of the questions are show related. So do yourself a favor and watch episodes 1-4 today, 5-8 tomorrow and a brand new espisode 9 on Sunday.

Andre 3000 Introduces Cartoon Series

Half of Atlanta heroes, Outkast, Andre Benjamin has created “Class of 3000,” the upcoming animated series set in and around an Atlanta school for the performing arts.* He’s co-creator, co-executive producer and pretty much full-fledged everything else on the show. It debuts in November on Cartoon Network, which aired a brief clip that featured the main character, Sunny Bridges (who looks and sounds like Benjamin) and a theme song, written by Benjamin, with the irresistibly bouncy chorus “Class of 3000/Be yourself/Cuz no one else can do that thing like you do.”

* This has me dying to know if it’s actually an Atlanta Public School Performing Arts Magnet school.Ã‚Â Both Andre and Big Boi attended Tri-Cities High School in East Point – a Performing Arts Magnet School.Ã‚Â Perhaps based on it?Ã‚Â I used to have regional Orchestra competitions there in highschool… will be watching for similiarities as soon as this airs!
