Good news! We ain’t so dangerous and according to the Atlanta Regional Commission, we are the second fastest-growing metro area in the US (behind Dallas).

Rachael Spiewak is twittering from Downtown Atlanta today in response to the Task Force For The Homeless crisis. The latest update? Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition has brought them water.

Today I’m at Task Force for the Homeless standing with folks who deserve dignity like you and me. Some of the guys who stay here help me fix bicycles five days a week. They are good hearted people.

Task Force for the Homeless had their water and electricity shut off last night with 575 homeless sleeping here. This is a major human crisis in our city!

Right now TFFTH needs 3 things now.
1. Cold Water.
2. Bodies for Service.
3. People to help plan for an action this afternoon as they have a public hearing scheduled.

In an article from BBC News, Jack Killorin, director of Atlanta’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) unit, declares “If they were making the television show Miami Vice today it would probably be more appropriately called Metro Atlanta Vice, but with some distinctions.”

The article also includes this very interesting map that shows the drug trafficking routes to Atlanta from Mexico and from Atlanta to other major US cities. It appears those suburban neighborhoods aren’t as safe as many assume! Check out the BBC article for more info.
