This is the show I’ve been waiting for since… I don’t know since I found out about it!

I first heard of both Delta Spirit and Dr. Dog on Daytrotter.com a while back (late 2006/early 2007) and immediately became of fan of both. Since then I’ve only seen Dr. Dog, which I believe was at Bonnaroo in 2007. I immediately got this late John Lennon vibe from them and was sold but the band I’m super stoked to see is San Diego’s Delta Spirit.

Delta Spirit has dates posted throughout the end of October. I highly recommend if they are coming to your town (or town near you) check them out!

Delta Spirit’s very recently released Ode To Sunshine has been extremely well received and creating some huge buzz for the band (aka on this blog!)

If you are in Atlanta, I hope you have tickets because it is sold out!

Let me guess it’s Wednesday and you’re looking for a new way to relieve the mid-week stress. Yes? No? Well – I am. With too much on my plate and not enough rest, I just want to hide in a corner and sleep.

Sleeping is not an option, but I’m also kind of bored of the same every night hang-outs! If you are too, I highly recommend checking out one of my favorite local Atlanta musicians – Jon Cole – and his new project – The Good Lookins – at Emory’s Bread Coffeehouse tonight. No music has been uploaded to the Myspace yet – BUT I promise you won’t be upset. This is, I believe the debut of The Good Lookins – so make sure to come out and support. You know I’ve never let you down sweet Atlanta.

(Plus, look how cute Jon and Jess are. C’mon!)

On that note – A band that was cyber-broken-in by DaFC.com, some of the coolest country lovers I know, Missy Gossip and the Secret Keepers, are playing at 1-Five-0 tomorrow night! I think its like 5 bucks, but the money goes to charity and you get free pizza and beer! Make sure to check them out. The band is gearing up for a tour this fall with Nashville band , Danger Bear and um, its gonna rock your socks. I promise.

UPCOMING SHOWS THAT IM FREAKING ABOUT:

Dr. Dog, Delta Spirit, and Seth Kauffman – Saturday, September 6 at The Earl
The Black Keys – Thursday, October 2 at The Tabernacle

I’ve only been to SXSW once. I saw some pretty cool shows, drank tons of Lone Star beer and margaritas. Ate BBQ, stole beer from a convenience store, almost got a tattoo from a mexican midget, saw Harry Shearer at the PASTE party, broke a couple traffic laws and came back home in one piece. It was heaven.

(While not attending an awesome show, I was, well, drinking…)
sxsw

I haven’t been back, and will not be attending this year (insert sad face) but decided to not dwell on the fact that I’m missing the chance to check out some of my favorite new bands and musicians – cause at the end of the day, its not going to make it any better…

I decided to make a short playlist of bands I would see if I were going. Enjoy.

Queen Latifah or Dr. Dog?

October 3rd, 2007

Sometimes my day job lets me do really cool things – like the time I met Mrs. Coretta Scott King, or when I compared beards with Tom Meighan – the lead singer of Kasabian, the time I drove around Atlanta with Anita Baker and shared a Krispy Kreme with her, or the time I bumped into Ludacris, in a backstage bathroom…yea, I like to think I’m pretty lucky.

October will be filled with more coolness, I’m sure – there is the DIESEL Launch party next week where both Cee-Lo and Butch Walker will take over the DJ booths, and then the 3-day eco-responsible music festival – The Echo Project (The Flaming Lips, Spoon, GZA the Genius, The Roots…)

Every thing is awesome, but every once in a while we have an event on the same night as cool show I want to go to, and well, it bums me out.

I missed The Cold War Kids when the played Vinyl, I missed The Black Keys last fall when they played Variety Playhouse, I missed my first born’s birth (Ok, no I didnt, and no, I dont have any kids…I think.)

Well, I just realized I’m going to miss Dr. Dog on November 2 at The Earl. Instead of getting drunk off of cheap beer and dancing around like a dancing fool, I have to be at Symphony Hall for Queen Latifah! Yes, Grammy Award winning singer/actor Queen Latifah. She is awesome, and her current tour is only hitting a few Southeastern cities. I’m sure it’ll be packed and I’ll have a blast – but, but, but it’s Dr. Dog!!! My favorite band from Philly (sorry Boyz II Men).

I’m not going to say which show you should go to – So I will post both shows info, and let you decide.

Want A Coffee? Got A Dog?

May 14th, 2007

Are you ever out walking your dog early ass in the morning, nursing a terrible hangover? You know you’re out of coffee at home, and whenever you even think of tying Rex to a tree he goes AWOL.

Well my friend, you may no longer have to deal with this problem. That is if you live in the Reynoldstown / Cabbagetown area

Park Grounds will have, coffee (of course) tea, ice cream (my favorite), cupcakes, cookies, cereal, fruit, soda pop, juice…basically things you’d find at any coffee shop – BUT it also has one special thing –

There is a large lot completely fenced in to serve the community as an off-leash dog park. Bring your best friend when you come to Reynoldstown’s new locally owned and operated independent coffee house.

Check it out, let me know what you think – something tells me you’ll find an awesome mix of hairy and creative folks roaming around at Park Grounds…
